Over the past few months, the MC Law campus has undergone many changes, and there are more to come. I met with Dean Anderson to discuss the ongoing and upcoming renovations around campus, and he shared his vision of an updated, beautiful MC Law campus. The focus of renovations has been on student wellness, as Dean Anderson recognizes that law school is “the most demanding, stressful, anxious challenge, you as students have faced to date.” Physical, mental, and spiritual wellness are prioritized in the design choices, and the completed results show the vision.
Phase 1

Phase 1 is complete, and the results look great. The first-floor library has been gutted and received a complete overhaul. The new layout features a sleek open floor plan with plenty of comfortable spots for students to study. Students also have additional spaces to collaborate with the newly created study rooms. The feng shui atmosphere and modern amenities have led many students, including myself, to make the first-floor library their go-to study spot.

The first floor of the main building has also received a facelift. Upon walking through the front door, visitors will notice the newly added reception desk in the open, white corridor that creates a warm welcome. There are also spaces for students to plop down for a few minutes in between classes to chat or get some work done. The administrative offices and classrooms have been updated and improved as well.

Renovations have taken place outside the buildings too. New logos have been installed, and a beautiful mural has been painted. The back parking lot now features a tree-filled path from the main building to the Advocacy Center. Campus security has also been improved with the addition of three gates.
Wellness Room
MC Law has also recently built its own version of a luxury massage spa. In the newly renovated first-floor library, the wellness room has just opened. The wellness room features a massage chair, fountain, plants, and lounge chaise, and it is the perfect spot for students to unwind for a few minutes. To use the wellness room, students will first need to fill out a waiver and reserve a slot with the second-floor library clerk. Reservations last for 30 minutes, which gives you plenty of time to relax and enjoy a massage.

I had been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the wellness room’s opening, and it was worth the wait. The massage chair hits every part of your body, and it also incorporates compression and stretching techniques. It is truly a wonderful experience to stroll into class feeling light as a feather after a nice massage. I encourage every student to give it a try.
The wellness room perfectly demonstrates the school’s focus on student wellness in campus renovations. The tranquility of the room promotes relaxation to boost mental wellness, while the two seating options relieve the body of stress to boost physical wellness. Dean Anderson told me that his goal with the wellness room was to “pamper” us students, and I am most certainly feeling pampered.
Phase 2
Renovations continue on campus, as Phase 2 is underway. The student center, formerly known as the CNF, is currently under construction and will look completely different once finished. The auditorium will be expanded by 25% and will be able to accommodate a whole class with an estimated capacity of 150 people. It will also be modifiable by a curtain system to split into smaller sections. The versatility and increased capacity will allow more events to be held in the future, so stay tuned for what’s to come!
The outdoor spaces on campus will also be seeing some big changes soon. The back patio will be reinvented into The Quad: a garden space for student activities. The Quad will feature a fountain, pavilions with overhead fans, multiple tables, and a wellness lawn. The wellness lawn opens the door up for new activities such as morning stretches and taekwondo classes. The Rosenblatt Patio will also see some changes to match the new look of The Quad. These changes show a commitment to student wellness, as these spaces give students a beautiful outdoor setting to socialize and study, which is sure to boost both mental and physical wellness.
There are more changes coming in Phase 2 as well. The student center will feature a new and improved café with a variety of tasty food selections along with spaces to hang out and eat. The family law clinics will be remodeled and will have the feel of a law firm. With how great the current renovations look, I’m excited to see what the future holds.
Phase 3
After Phase 2 is complete, it’s onto Phase 3. Phase 3 will focus on the second floor of the main building. Rooms 250 and 251 will be remodeled to match the current style of Room 150. The student lounge is getting torn out to make way for an open floor plan. This new area will have an “airport lounge feel” to match the rest of the building’s spacious, modern vibe. The second floor of the library will be remodeled to look like the first floor, and it will feature the rare books study room, which is in essence the VIP study room.
On the first floor, a chapel is being installed. This chapel was designed by Kristian Gautier, MC Law’s Director of Christian Ministries, and gives students a place to “rest, pray, meditate on God’s word, or just to sit and think.” The chapel will include “a Prayer Box for prayer requests, a Bible, tables, candles, 3 church pews, and even a handmade wooden cross.” While the rest of the renovations have prioritized mental and physical wellness, the installation of this chapel is focused on spiritual wellness.
In a short time, MC Law’s campus has seen drastic changes, and by the time renovations are complete, it will have been completely transformed. This new-look campus will provide a lively atmosphere for students and is sure to lessen the burden of law school stress. With all these great changes, the future looks bright for MC Law.
